Kitchen Selection
Designing Your Dream Kitchen with UHR
Making selections for a kitchen remodel is an exciting process! After all, the kitchen is the heart of your home, and a refresh can add tremendous value for you and your family. While the industry standard for a full kitchen remodel is typically 6–12 weeks, here at UHR, we focus on meticulous planning so that our actual construction process can be as quick and efficient as possible—often just 2–4 weeks.
Below is an overview of the steps you can expect when designing your dream kitchen with your UHR expert:
1. Layout & Floor Plan
- Open Layout vs. Existing Footprint: Determine if you’d like a more open floor plan or if you’ll keep the current structure.
- Island Placement: Decide if you want to add or reposition an island.
- Sink & Appliance Locations: Think about where the sink, fridge, and other appliances will be most convenient for your lifestyle.
2. Flooring & Paint
- Flooring Material Options (from least expensive to most):
- Laminate
- Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)
- Engineered Hardwood
- Solid Hardwood
- Tile
- Paint Color: Once you’ve chosen your floors, select paint colors that complement your new design.
3. Electrical & Furnishings
- Outlet & Lighting: Decide on the number and placement of outlets, as well as the style and positioning of light fixtures.
- Appliance Choices: Determine whether you’re keeping your existing appliances or purchasing new ones.
4. Cabinet Design
- Style & Finish: Consider door styles (e.g., Shaker, raised panel, flat panel) and decide between stained or painted cabinets.
- Baseboards: If you’re replacing cabinets entirely, remember that existing baseboards may need to be removed and reinstalled.
- Specialized Cabinets & Features: Think about storage solutions like spice racks, baking pan dividers, trash pull-outs, or rollout trays for added functionality.
- Hardware: Finally, choose your handle/knob design and finish (e.g., brushed nickel, brass, oil-rubbed bronze).
5. Countertops & Backsplash
- Material Options:
- Quartz (no sealing needed, less heat resistance)
- Granite or Quartzite (excellent heat resistance, requires occasional sealing)
- Backsplash Choice: Extend your countertop material up the wall, or opt for a simpler 4″ backsplash. You can even create a dramatic “waterfall” edge on islands or at the end of cabinets.
- Edge Profile: Popular choices include Eased, Beveled, Ogee, Bullnose, Half Bullnose, Rounded, Quarter Round, or a Custom edge.
